Saori Weaving

Developed in Japan more than 40 years ago, Saori is an exciting way of weaving that allows anyone to spontaneously and quickly create unique hand woven cloth. Using individual weaving looms and a variety of yarns, participants can choose to make a scarf, bag, wall art or table mat. All materials included.

Your Tutor

Heather Walters has worked within education & design and with art, colour and textiles over many years. She has held previous exhibitions of her handweaving at Knox Civic Centre (2015), Jarmbi Gallery, Burrinja (2015), CrossXpollinatioN, Colac & Red Rock Gallery (2014), CrossXpollinatioN, Colac (2013), Brunswick Street Gallery (2012), Oakhill Gallery, Mornington (2012) and The Vault, Whitehorse Art Space (2011). During 2013, intensive weaving studies in Japan with Kenzo Jo, co-founder of Saori, expanded her weaving vocabulary and strengthened her desire to help others discover their own creative expression through free style hand weaving. She opened Art Weaver Studio in Box Hill in early 2014, one of only three internationally registered Saori weaving studios in Australia.
